After reading through some of the reviews on here, we thought we would try the Mexican night. It was terrible! The service was definitely lacking, too. We sat without so much as a "be right with you" for at least 15 minutes and it was not busy. The food was awful. My sister ordered a cheeseburger and even that was bad. The meat used in the tacos and enchiladas did not seem to be beef, but i couldn't tell you what it was. the enchiladas sauce was like the sauce in spaghettios, but sweeter. the fajitas were terrible, too and I'm not sure how you can mess these things up, but they did. We will not be going back there...ever!

Well worth the drive from Harrison when we visit the cottage.

An accidental discovery a few years ago - Now we stop every time we travel up north. Nice menu variety for a little place, and the food tastes like you could've made it at home. (I always get breakfast.) Consistently friendly & responsive waitstaff. Nice for kids b/c of the boot-shaped drinking glasses and the peg games you can play at the table while you're waiting.

Thursday is Mexican Fiesta night. Nachos were good. Staff was friendly and attentive. Will have to come back for breakfast sometime.

2015 Update - STILL great food, really good prices. We always come here when we are on a vaycay. Chicken strips are awesome, not sure how awesome chicken strips can be, but I am guessing this is as good as they can get. Soups are always good...some are great :)

I think I ordered the wrong thing. Based off of the reviews I was pretty pumped to try this cute diner's food. I did enjoy the ambiance of the place, but that's where my joy ends. I ordered the burrito, which was a hefty plate of sauce, cheese, stale chips, and oddly dry beans. I snagged some scrambled eggs off a friend's plate and was treated to the same dry texture of my beans. At least there was some consistency! Service was good, however, and the diner is very clean. The hodgepodge of coffee mugs is very cute and our waitress made sure my cup was always full. If by some miracle of God I have made my way back to this diner, I will try something else.

We stopped information lunch on our way to Mackinac Island. Service was great. My omelette was good, but my oldest really liked the Boss Hogg. Great coffee mugs and glass boot glasses for soda!

Cute place! Clean and comfortable. Standard fare but meats are fresh and the pancakes expert fluffy. Great service. We will eat here every morning this vacation at Houghton Lake.

Nice little diner with good food. So far I had their Saturday steak dinner and Friday fish fry. Fish fry was really good, nice crispy panko battered fish with fries and coleslaw. Steak dinner was good, with choices of sauce, seasonings and toppings to choose from. Prices were really good. A lot of locals eating here. Friendly service too.

Decent breakfast, even if my dry sourdough did arrive slathered in butter. Good coffee, too, and clean overall. Lots of specials and perhaps worth a repeat.

My husband and I were staying in Houghton Lake for one night for our anniversary. We had eaten lunch and were not very hungry for dinner. We decided to go out for pie and coffee so we called Little Boots. We showed up and the place was packed and more people came in as we sat down. Plenty of fish to be eaten and many varieties. Husband decided to have fish. I was excited to see country fried steak and gravy. Growing up in the south this was a favorite of mine. I was very pleased. The food was just like diner food should be. The fish was amazing, of course we were in lake country. The staff was warm and friendly. Wait time was nil as it seemed like we were in and out in no time flat. I could not ask for a better experience from a cute and friendly little diner.

Fresh food, good service. It's not fancy, no view of lake, but friendly service and great food makes up for that. Good for family. Heading out of town so won't get a chance to try breakfast here but I bet it's great!

Great diner with great atmosphere, decor and food. If you are in the mood for something unique in the houghton lake area, this is the place. Great food at great prices with service to go with. My friend and I stopped in again for breakfast and have nothing but great things to say about the place. Food was hot and delicious orders omelette and skillet and they both were delicious and what expected. Decor is unique with little boots on the window sills and mismatched coffee mugs from different places and themes. All in all will come back to visit for a breakfast or lunch. They are close early, 8 o'clock so probably would not do dinner.

My wife and I are local Higgins Lake residents and try to make it over to Little Boots at least 3 or 4 times a month. Everything about the place is great. Wait staff, food, cleanliness, pricing, speed of service, all very, very good. Favorite dinner items include; Mile High Meatloaf, Country Fried Steak, Boss Hog Omlett, burgers w/home made buns and beef burrito. Real home made cooking and you won't leave hungry!! You'll find yourself loosening your belt on the way out. Only suggestion would be for staying open a little later than 8pm in the summer. Sometimes we work longer hours and can't get there before closing. Overall, 5 stars, two thumbs up, etc.

This is a fun place with tasty food. The random coffee mugs and smarty references and knickknacks related to "little boots" are fun to peruse while waiting (the short time) for your food to arrive. I've been here 3x now, and have always received quick and friendly service. The food is a good quality. The "make your own omelettes" are great with a generous portion of smokey bacon as one of the choices. (Try it with Swiss and green onion too...yum!) $5.99 and comes with hash browns and toast. The corned beef hash and eggs are also delicious. This stuff doesn't come from a can! Oh, and the food is NOT greasy. Simply said: Eat here!

This place can whip up some amazing food. I tried the biscuit fire side skillet and I was impressed. It was beyond my expectations and I would have ordered seconds if I wasn't already full. I'm already regretting that this place isn't in Grand Rapids. Reasonable prices too!

We stopped in here based on all the positive reviews - BIG MISTAKE! Don't be fooled like we were! It is nothing more than over-priced elementary school cafeteria food. Think gray, canned green beans, instant mashed potatoes, and rubbery chicken. The food was low, low quality. Nothing we ordered was made from scratch, and it's all VERY greasy. I can't believe people actually pay to eat this food! The place was also dirty, with food encrusted in the seats, and dirt/old food/filth smudged on all the condiments and menus - ew! To top it off, my husband and I had to fight over the bathroom when we got back to our hotel, if you know what I mean. I spent half the night in there! It looks like most of the other reviews were from breakfast, so I supposed maybe their breakfasts are better, but based on our experience, I will never go back.

Vacationing in Northern Michighan from San Diego.... had a cabin down the road from LIttle Boots. I can't rave enough about this place... seriously one of the best breakfasts' I have ever had.... excellent service and it all just felt like my mom was cooking our breakfast. I had the Chicken Fried Steak Skillet. **drooling*** just thinking about it. Excellent prices too!
